Questions

Common notary appointment questions

Can Waypoint give legal advice?

No. Waypoint can perform notarial acts when appropriate, but cannot draft documents, choose certificates, or advise on legal effect.

What should I have ready?

Have acceptable ID, the prepared document, all signers, any required witnesses, and location details ready before the appointment.

Can I request urgent service?

Yes. Urgent means Waypoint checks the earliest realistic appointment without disrupting existing appointments.

What is included in the total?

The total combines statutory notarial act fees, the Travel Fee, and any appointment-specific requirements agreed before scheduling.

Why not publish one universal price?

Travel, timing, location, signer count, and reserved appointment needs can change the quote. Waypoint confirms the total first.

Can you notarize any document?

No. The document, signer ID, signer awareness, willingness, and certificate requirements still have to fit Ohio notarial rules.

Can I sign before you arrive?

Usually no. Many notarial acts require signing in the notary’s presence. Ask before signing.

What documents don't need to be notarized?

Some documents, such as federal forms or vital records like birth, marriage, and death certificates, are commonly not notarizable or don't require notarization. If unsure, include the document type in the request and Waypoint will confirm.

Do all signers need to be present, or can one sign in advance?

All signers generally must appear before the notary and sign in front of them. Signing in advance is a common misconception that can require rescheduling the appointment.

Can you notarize for someone who doesn't speak English fluently?

The notary must be able to communicate directly with the signer to confirm identity, willingness, and awareness. Mention any language consideration when requesting service so it can be reviewed.

Can you explain my loan documents?

Waypoint can identify general document names and signing locations, but questions about loan terms go to your lender or title team.

Can you handle scanbacks?

When scanbacks are required, include that in the request so timing and price can be quoted accurately.

What is the difference between a notary and a Notary Signing Agent?

A Notary Signing Agent (NSA) is a notary with additional training, background screening, and loan-package experience layered on top of the base notary commission -- not a separate license. Waypoint's loan-signing appointments are handled as NSA work.

Do you work with Snapdocs or SigningOrder?

Waypoint accepts assignments through both platforms in addition to direct title-company and lender requests.

Can you print my closing package, or do I need to send my own printer and paper?

Waypoint prints on a dual-tray laser printer capable of letter and legal size in the same package when the closing package is provided electronically.

What happens if I need to reschedule a closing at the last minute?

Contact Waypoint as soon as a change is known. Closings are date-driven, so rescheduling is reviewed against real availability rather than promised automatically.

Will you explain what I am signing?

Waypoint can point out where to sign and initial and confirm a document was properly executed, but cannot explain loan terms or give legal or financial advice -- that stays with your lender, title company, or attorney.

Can you come to a hospital today?

Submit an urgent request and Waypoint will check the earliest realistic availability without promising immediate service.

Can staff act as witnesses?

That depends on the facility and the document. Please ask the facility before the appointment.

What if my family member is sedated or not fully alert -- can you still notarize?

Only if the notary can confirm the signer is willing, aware, and able to understand what they are signing at that moment. A notary must decline the notarization if that is not clear -- this is a duty, not a judgment call the family can override.

Do I need to arrange visiting hours or hospital approval before you arrive?

Share the facility name, room or unit, and any known check-in requirements when requesting service so the visit can be planned around the facility's own visiting-hour and access policies.

What if the hospital does not allow an outside notary in?

This happens occasionally and is outside Waypoint's control. Facility access and visitor policy always control whether an appointment can proceed.

Can you notarize in the ICU or a shared room?

Often yes, subject to facility policy and space -- share the unit and room details in advance so the notary can plan around the constraints of that specific space.

Can a resident with memory issues sign?

Waypoint cannot make medical or legal capacity decisions. The notary must be satisfied that the signer is willing, aware, and able to complete the notarial act.

Can a family member request the appointment?

Yes. A family member or responsible contact may request service, but the signer still must personally participate and meet notarial requirements.

Can the facility help coordinate a private room and witnesses?

Many facilities do help coordinate space and witnesses, though this varies. Confirm with the facility ahead of the appointment and share what you learn when requesting service.

What documents are most commonly needed in senior living?

Healthcare power of attorney and durable financial power of attorney are the two most common. Waypoint notarizes whatever document is already prepared and does not select or draft it.

How is this different from a hospital bedside appointment?

Senior-living appointments are typically less acute and more plannable in advance than a hospital bedside visit, though the same identity, willingness, and awareness requirements apply either way.

Can Waypoint guarantee entry?

No. Service is always subject to facility access, procedures, identification, signer willingness, and applicable law.

Are jails and prisons handled the same way?

No. County jails, municipal detention settings, and state correctional institutions have different procedures, so Waypoint reviews the exact facility before confirming.

How far in advance do you need to schedule a jail or prison notarization?

As early as possible. Clearance and approval lead times vary by facility and are often the biggest scheduling factor for this type of appointment.

What ID or approval do I need to provide?

Requirements vary by facility. Share what you already know about the facility's process when requesting service, and Waypoint will confirm what else is needed.

Can you notarize for someone incarcerated outside Ohio?

No. Waypoint's notary commission is Ohio-specific, so out-of-state facility requests are outside what Waypoint can perform.

Can Waypoint tell me how to transfer the title?

No. Waypoint can notarize prepared documents when appropriate, but transfer instructions come from the BMV, title office, or legal counsel.

Does the buyer need to be present too?

For notarization purposes, generally only the seller's signature on an Ohio vehicle title needs to be notarized -- though the BMV may still want both parties for the transfer itself. Confirm current BMV requirements directly.

What do I need to bring?

The title itself, acceptable photo ID, and a bill of sale if one applies are the typical documents to have ready.

Can you notarize a title for a boat or motorcycle too?

Yes. This service covers vehicle, motorcycle, and watercraft title and bill-of-sale documents, not just cars.

Can you tell me if my document is valid?

No. Waypoint can perform appropriate notarial acts, but document validity questions require legal guidance.

Should witnesses sign before the appointment?

Ask before anyone signs. Some signatures must happen together during the appointment.

Can you tell me which power of attorney form I need?

No. That is a legal question for an attorney. Waypoint notarizes whatever document the signer or attorney has already prepared.

Do all my documents need a notary, or just witnesses for some?

It varies by document type -- some require witnesses only, some require both a notary and witnesses. This is worth confirming with whoever prepared the document before the appointment.

Can you notarize a document I found online?

Yes, a properly executed document can be notarized regardless of where it came from, but Waypoint cannot confirm the document itself is legally valid or fit for its intended purpose.

Is online notarization always available?

Waypoint offers remote online notarization, but availability for a specific request depends on signer identity readiness, document fit, and receiving-party acceptance.

Should I email or upload my ID to Waypoint?

No. Do not email or upload ID to Waypoint. After your request is reviewed, Waypoint sends you a secure Proof link, and identity verification happens directly within that Proof session.

Can I use RON if I am out of state?

Often yes -- Ohio law requires the notary to be physically located in Ohio at the time of the session, while the signer may be located elsewhere where legally permitted. Confirm your specific situation when requesting service.

Do I need any special software or equipment?

A webcam-enabled device, a stable internet connection, and valid photo ID are the standard requirements for a Proof session.

Is a RON notarization legally the same as an in-person one?

Yes, under Ohio law, when performed on an authorized platform by a notary specifically authorized for remote online notarization.

What if my document needs to be physically mailed or recorded afterward?

RON produces a tamper-evident electronic document and certificate. Recording requirements vary by document and county, so confirm with the receiving party before the session if recording is needed.

Does urgent mean immediate?

No. It means Waypoint checks the earliest realistic time available without disrupting confirmed appointments.

Will I know the total first?

Yes. The total is confirmed before you commit.

Is a notarization done at night or on a holiday still legally valid?

Yes. An after-hours or emergency notarization is not legally different from one performed during standard hours -- the only difference is logistics and pricing, not validity.

How quickly can someone arrive?

There is no fixed number to promise. Submit the request with your timing need and Waypoint will give a realistic estimate based on the actual route and schedule.

Is there an extra fee for urgent or after-hours requests?

Often yes. Timing outside normal scheduling windows may affect the Travel Fee, and the total is confirmed before you commit.
